The fourth monthly DJ night was last week (at Margret in the Junction )and it has become the right kind of debauched, shouty, musically schizophrenic, dance party that it should be...
Britpop, Eazy-E, old Misfits songs, Bowie and Serge Gainsbourge thrown together.

The band is on a pause right now as of the new Evelyn Nichols arriving for James and Lindsay, so I'm making my own album under 'Dronesclub', and there is now a blog up for that as of yesterday here DRONESCLUB where I'll be posting about Curse These Metal Hands nights, the album, t-shirt making, rants, design, shit art, music, summer... Curse These Metal Hands

Februrary 6th is the first official DJ night (previous being at the album launch party in December) at Margret on Dundas West of 'Curse These Metal Hands'. This is Martin from Screen3 and Matt, a friend of the band who has an overwhelming and unnerving encyclopedic knowledge of 90's British music. They bonded quickly when Martin learned he was going to London for a few days mainly to see Spiritualized perform the whole of 'Ladies and Gentlemen we are Floating in Space'. Such insane dedication and style should be embraced.
Matt is under the name combust huxtable at the mix upload site 8tracks.

First of all, Happy New Year!
The general consesus seems to be that 2009 was the worst year ever for everyone...well happy 2010.

The cover song competition was drawn at the end of the album release party and the winning song is...............this.

Choirs, female vocals, snow white goth prietesses and 80's sax solos are not our obvious strong points, but we've started and it going to be fun to do. We're aiming for the end of the month, but this is also the month that James' baby is due to be born (!) so hopefully the winner will be a bit understanding if it tales a few more weeks than that.
We had a suggestion to recreate the video shot for shot too....that is a maybe.

It was won by Jeff Locke, who also does some fine mashups you can get from his website.

The album launch party is in 2 days at our favourite bar in the city, Margret.

With the album on the release night there will a form to pick a song for us to cover...
The Cure, lil Wayne, Danzig etc, whatever is chosen....we'll recored it and send it to the winner.

We've just picked up the finished album from the mastering studio.
It was done by Phil Demetro at Lacquer Channel, and after an eventful (one way of putting it) year that was unlikely to result in an album...it is finished and sounds exactly how how we wanted.
A video and artwork are being done and a short wait till the launch party!

With mixing of the album finished, I've been starting to think about how I'm going to recreate the different synths, software plug-ins, samples, noises and found, reversed, distorted, chopped up and vocodered sounds into something I can actually play live.
I came across this..
This will actually work out perfectly.

We wanted to make shirts that weren't just a printed block image, so have been trying out stencils, handmaking and bleaching shirts so that each one is slightly different.

These are the first trial run results.
